Recipes!!!

The long promised recipes are finally here!

Brownies

Melt together:

2/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup cocoa

Stir in:

2 cups sugar
4 eggs (1 at a time)

Add:

1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts

Pour into a 9x13 inch pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes.


Blondies
Adapted from Betty Crocker's New Cookbook
(they call these Butterscotch bars)

1/2 cup shortening
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup chopped nuts
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of 9x13 inch pan with shortening.

Melt shortening in a 1 1/2 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Stir in the brown sugar and eggs. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in the pan.

Bake 25 minutes. Cool slightly in a pan on a wire rack. Cut into 2 inch squares while warm.
