Cinnamon Roll Waffles

I've seen various made-in-your-waffle-iron recipes on Pinterest lately and they all look so intriguing. But I kept wondering if they really worked and if they tasted decent. Cause we all know that just because something looks good does NOT mean that it tastes that way.

I bought a couple tubes of cinnamon rolls when I went grocery shopping. The fact that I bought them was exciting enough for the kids, but when I popped open the tube...well, that was a real treat for them. I'm pretty sure my oldest has never seen a can of biscuits or cinnamon rolls that come in a can (and she's 7) so that tells you how often I buy them!

So, I opened the can and placed 4 on my waffle iron. So far so good.

Closed the lid and cooked them for about 3 minutes.

Then we spread on the icing and taste tested.

The Verdict

  • The Pros- Easy, fast, essentially no clean up, my oldest can do it on her own (always good to have a recipe or 2 that she can do), I can see it being handy in the summer when it gets really hot.
  • The Cons- The only thing I can think of is that I personally don't like using canned biscuits/dough/etc. If that isn't a hangup for you, I don't think there really is a downside to this at all!
I would do this again in a heartbeat as a special treat! The kids loved it, they thought it was awesome and it was fast. I am going to experiment with my own homemade dough to use instead and see how they work out. If I could get my own cinnamon rolls, cake mixes, brownie mixes and muffin mixes to work this could be a really fantastic and fun way to make all sorts of things for us! I'm excited by the prospect.

I'll keep updating what I find out as I go along. Have any of you tried this? What did you think?
