Evil vs. Evil

Q85H6TR7F49U                     Which is better- Blondies or Brownies?

I posed this question to my friends on facebook and got a 50-50 split decision.

So today, in one long post I will be making them for you.

First up the Blondies:

Such sugary goodness.

To start making these little babies you need to melt some shortening in a saucepan over low heat:

Then you sprinkle on the brown sugar and break a couple of eggs on top.

After I took this picture I remembered to add the other egg.

Next, you put the flour, nuts, salt and baking soda in and stir it up. I used course sea salt this time and I have to say that the salty crunch that you occasionally get is FANTASTIC.

Stir it all up and spread it into a 9x13 inch pan. bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes.

These are chewy, slightly butterscotch-y and oh so delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel.

*BUT*

On to the next Evil, the brownies.

You are going to melt some shortening and cocoa powder together.

Next you pour in onto a couple of cups of sugar,

Add a couple four eggs....

Stir that all up and add some flour, salt, baking powder and nuts. Very similar ingredients.....interesting how they come out completely different.

Mix it up and spread it into a 9x13 pan. bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes.

I baked these together and it took them 27 minutes, it will all depend on your oven.

No matter what kind of brownie you like, fudgy or butterscotchy, there is a delicious one here for you to try.

Or, you could just make both!

Here are the recipes:
