Cheesy Sausage Biscuit Bombs

Sometimes, I have an idea pop into my head that I *think* is going to be an amazing idea. I don't know until I try it out, of course, but I have a hunch it'll be good. Cheesy Sausage Biscuit Bombs are one of those recipes. I just KNEW it had to be good, but there is always that chance the recipe will be a colossal failure.

Thankfully, it wasn't! My husband and kids LOVE these and they are so easy to make. The bake up in a flash and this recipe is set up for freezer cooking, with the yield being 32 biscuit bombs in all. For about 30 minutes of actual work, that's a really fantastic yield.

I had coupons for the biscuits and got them for free, so these ended up being a really cheap breakfast to stock the freezer. And, since each biscuit uses about a teaspoon of cooked, crumbled sausage and a tablespoon (or so) of shredded cheese, these are perfect for using up leftovers.

To make them even more amazing, serve these with pepper gravy over the top- it's a biscuit and gravy breakfast with a cheesy, sausage surprise inside!

Cheesy Sausage Biscuit Bombs

  • 4 cans flaky biscuits
  • 1 tube of sausage (I used Jimmy Dean), cooked and crumbled
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
To make, pop open a can of biscuits and take one out. Separate the layers into 2 pieces and place one on the counter. Place about a Tablespoon of cheese (I didn't measure, I just put some on there) and then add a teaspoon (or more) of cooked, crumbles sausage. Place the second half of the biscuit over the top, stretching slightly to make it large enough to cover the fillings. Using a fork, crimp the edges and place onto a cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining biscuits and fillings. I could fit 12 on my cookie sheet at one time, so I made a few batches. Bake at 350 degrees until the biscuits are golden brown. Let cool and place in freezer bags for storage. To heat, pop into the toaster over for a few minutes, or microwave, until the filling is warm. Makes approx. 32 biscuit bombs.

That's all there is to it. You could easily add veggies, or make these with a different protein. I think I may try my hand at ham and cheese ones next or maybe chicken and bacon ranch. Really, anything you can keep withing the biscuit center you can fill these with. The possibilities are endless! Our family gave these 2 thumbs up and I have to agree, they are a really great breakfast option.

  2. have you ever added a touch of mustard to a cheesy bread or cheese sauce, it just seems to enhance the flavour. This was a tip I received years ago. You can sometimes cut back on the amount of cheese that you're using. This is really good if you do a ham and cheese type of biscuit.
