Cherry Cheese Danish

With Thanksgiving right around the corner (how did that happen??!!), I thought I would share some recipes that are quick and easy to tuck into menu planning to keep you sane during the Holidays. Today is the first recipe I wanted to share and boy, is it a good one :)

These little danishes are so quick and easy to make! Usually, danish pastry is not something I make on an average weekday morning simply because it is SO time consuming. I don't have time for time consuming during the week. Heck, I don't have time for it on the weekends either for that matter.

A lovely lady that I used to work with used to make fruit danishes really similar to these, only without the cheese part, and would bring them to work. We all loved the cherry ones and the apple version was nothing to sneeze at. I LOVE me a cheese danish, so I adapted these to fit my personal tastes and I couldn't be happier.

Have I mentioned that they are really easy? 'Cause they are.

Cherry Cheese Danish

1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tubes of refrigerator crescent rolls
1 can cherry pie filling (I used Lucky Leaf, of course)

Mix the cream cheese, egg, powdered sugar and vanilla together in a small bowl. Set aside. Take the crescent rolls and pop the tubes. Unroll the crescent roll pieces and separate one. Take both ends and fold them towards each other, making a rough bowl shape. Press down the middle to make a sturdy base and to seal the dough together, preventing cheese goo leaks. Don't worry if they look a little wonky, they'll even out as they bake. Repeat for all the crescent rolls. Place the cups on a lightly greased cookie sheet and fill with some of the cheese mixture (mine took a couple of tablespoons of cheese mixture). The cheese will puff a little as it bakes because of the egg, so keep that in mind and don't overfill. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes, or until the crescent is browned and the cheese is set all the way through. Take them out of the oven and let them cool. Top with your cherry pie filling and enjoy!

So tasty your family will think they came from a bakery, so easy you can make them anytime and so pretty they can easily given as a gift!

I was provided product by Lucky Leaf, but thoughts and opinions in this post are honest and always mine.

  1. That's a great picture. We are trying the Tar Heel Pie from Woman's Day Magazine this year--one with a wheat-free crust and the other with a regular, homemade crust.
