Sometimes these things happen...
And we just have to deal with it. We had boughten four chicks, and sadly last night Penny did not make it. Now, anyone who has raised chickens from chicks knows that sometimes they are not the heartiest creatures God put on earth. But try telling that to a 5 year old when it was her chick that croaked. It was all very sad and ended with her dad telling her he would go to the Co-Op and pick her out a very special chick to make up for it. This made her very happy. I am glad that we have this experience, for all the heartbreak she felt. Things live, they die and it all starts over again. It's important for the kids to learn that life isn't always rosy and sometimes bad/sad things happen. Also, kids should know where food comes from, and while we obviously didn't eat a week old chick, it opened up a chance for a great discussion about where their fried chicken comes from. We just went with it because, well....that's how we roll. Now we are onto much more pleasant endeavors for the rest of the day, it's Wednesday!

Grandma says "you have to wash their butts if they get plugged" I assume she means the chicks.
ReplyDeleteThis was just an unfortunate sleeping incident, she was on the bottom and small.
