We have not had good luck keeping chickens in the past. If the wild critters didn't kill them our ex-dog did. I really enjoy having chickens, until I have to chase them back acrossed the road to our house at 5:30 in the morning. In my pj's. Because they were holding up traffic. That I could live without. But, we got a new Mother Earth News a couple months ago that had an article about raising chickens in your garden and it has inspired me to try it again. I'm only going to raise two hens this time (instead of the 8 we had last time) which will give me about 60 eggs a month, providing they lay everyday. I like having my own eggs, the color is brighter in the yolk, I think they taste richer and there is something to be said about knowing exactly where your food is coming from. The insect control is also a big plus. So, who wants to join me this year and raise a few chickens for eggs? It's rewarding and it may even cut your grocery bill a little. And it's FUN!!!
